# Shipment Contents

> Declare the items in your US-bound shipment, including HTS codes and manufacturer details required for customs.

US cross-border shipments require more detailed item declarations than domestic Canada shipments. Each item must include customs information for clearance.

## Required fields per item

| Field                    | Details                                                        |
| ------------------------ | -------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Description**          | Plain-language description of the item (e.g. "cotton t-shirt") |
| **Quantity**             | Number of units                                                |
| **Estimated unit value** | Approximate value per unit in USD                              |
| **Manufacturer**         | Business name, address, and country of origin                  |
| **HTS-10 Code**          | 10-digit Harmonized Tariff Schedule code                       |

## HTS-10 Code

The HTS-10 code identifies the type of goods being imported into the United States. It is used by US customs to determine the applicable duty rate.

* Must be exactly 10 digits
* Required for every item in the shipment
* Look up codes at [hts.usitc.gov](https://hts.usitc.gov/)

## Manufacturer details

Each item must be linked to a manufacturer. Provide:

* **Business name**
* **Address** (line 1 and line 2 if applicable)
* **City**
* **Country** — determines the country of origin for customs

### Saving manufacturers

Manufacturer records can be saved and reused across shipments. You can also set a manufacturer as your default to pre-populate the field automatically on future shipments.
