# Package Dimensions & Weight

> Enter the dimensions and weight of your package, or apply a saved preset.

Accurate dimensions and weight are required to calculate your shipping rate. Rates are based on actual weight and dimensional weight — whichever is greater.

## Using a preset

If you regularly ship the same package size, you can save a preset (also called a package macro) with your standard dimensions and weight. Select a saved preset to auto-fill all fields at once.

You can also mark a preset as your default so it's applied automatically each time you start a new shipment.

## Manual entry

Enter your package dimensions and weight manually:

| Field                 | Available units                      |
| --------------------- | ------------------------------------ |
| Length, Width, Height | Inches, centimeters, meters, or feet |
| Weight | Pounds, kilograms, ounces, or grams |

Measure the outside of the package, including any padding or outer packaging.

<Note>
  For irregularly shaped packages, measure at the widest points in each direction. Carriers calculate dimensional weight using the largest dimensions.
